DR. JOE PIROZZOLO
Theory and Practice
Hello! I'm Dr. Joe Pirozzolo and I founded Theory and Practice Consulting to help athletes develop to their full potential. The idea for Theory and Practice comes from my background as a theory driven researcher in psychology. While I love science and data, the other part to helping people is having practical knowledge that can be put to use quickly and effectively. At Theory and Practice, I strive to provide both scientific and practical guidance to help athletes dominate on gameday. Check out this site and contact me with questions or consulting inquiries!
ABOUT
Dr. Joe Pirozzolo, Theory and Practice
I'm a Certified Mental Performance Coach (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), the premier organization in the field. I also earned a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Houston. But above all, I've been a devoted athlete my entire life, playing numerous sports as a young athlete. I learned, at a young age, the special experience sports can give you. Challenging yourself, competing against your peers, and at times the thrill of victory. I played two varsity high school sports (baseball and golf) and collegiately for St. Edward's University. My four years as an NCAA ball player helped me establish a foundation for many of the mental skills concepts that I teach today. My senior year of college ball, I helped my team to a 3rd place finish in the NCAA D2 World Series at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
I hit 5 for 15 (.333) in the College World Series, relying heavily on mental rehearsal, self talk, and techniques for “slowing the game down”.
As a Mental Performance coach, I combine my PhD training in human development with my experiences as a college athlete. I encourage athletes to train and utilize their mental skills (e.g., visualization) to develop a consistent approach toward their goals. I use practical applications of these mental skills in an athlete's training regiment. My athletes' programs are built from proven mental skills concepts such as improving focus, mental rehearsal and learning how to compete like a champion. I like to assess and diagnose results using measurable data and I train my players to have a positive outlook on personal development.
Compete and have fun! Playing sports is one of the greatest things athletes will do in life. Competing in sports also teaches us how to approach the majority of challenges in life too! Contact me for mental training: joe@tapsp.com.
